I have found this really interesting website while I was looking up information about bottled water. Since we watched the movie "Tapped" I have been really bent out of shape over what theses bottled water companies are doing in order to make a profit.
I ran across the website Food and Water Watch during my search.
This website is agency located in Washington D.C that is dedicated to make sure food and water products are safe, environmentally friendly (sustainable) and accessible to all. This website offers a lot of good informational articles about food produced in the U.S, fish and water, including bottled water. Besides the great articles on this site, what I found really neat is the provide many different ways you can take action and get involved. Most ways involve contacting law makers and advocating for safe products, which in my opinion is a basic human right. No one should have to worry about whether their water is safe, or AFFORDABLE! Food and water are needs and basic human rights that should not be allowed to be taken away from us so corporations can make a profit. I encourage everyone to check out this website whether it is take action or read some of the great articles.
I scanned over the article about the genetically engineered salmon, and how they are not going to cure world hunger. I read a little about this type of issue in the book I read for this class, and this is a very ineffective strategy that pollutes our water, puts our natural fisheries at risk and actually ends up being pretty costly. Why are these types of fisheries allowed I will never know...
ReplyDeleteI looked over the "school milk" part of the website about how children drink milk at school and how hormones we are giving cows could lead to cancer in people. This makes me want to give all schools organic milk! Hopefully, it will start to happen!
ReplyDeleteI also have been really moved by the tapped documentary we watched and been doing my research into things that can be done to help. This article seems very informational and a good tool to make a difference!
ReplyDeleteI, too, have been greatly impacted from the Tapped video and surrounding water issues. I like how I've seen all these initiatives being taken and hope that it continues.
ReplyDeleteI think many of us are affected by that movie and that website is a great source for a start to make an impact on law makers so they can provide and protect people like they should be doing. It's going to be helpful for some of us who will be going into public health because it could be a potential place to start our career as a health educator.
ReplyDeleteI remember how surprised I was to learn in the 'Tapped' documentary at how so few of states have accessible areas for people to dispense empty water bottles. Which I think is a bummer.
ReplyDeleteI think of all the movies we watched, our class was most affected by the "tapped" video; I know I was. It's good to know that there are people out there fighting for our right to drink water that is clean and inexpensive!
