Eye Opener: Environmental Working Group

I looked up my Covergirl fantastic Lash Curved Brush: very black on Skin Deep, cosmetic safety guide. The safety results shocked me and made me very concerned. The ironic thing is I actually went to target this morning and bought a few cosmetics. I wish I had done this eye opener assignment before I had a shopping spree. The ingredients found in my mascara are linked to, cancer, immunotoxicity, reproductive and organ toxicity, neurotoxicity, and endocrine disruption. With such a long list of harmful effects it is amazing that these cosmetics are allowed to be sold in the U.S. This product also scored a 7 out of 10 on the hazard scale and is considered a very high hazard. Also, according to this website 93% of mascaras scored better on the hazard scale than mine. This means I'll be doing some more shopping tomorrow. I can't believe I am willingly putting something this bad on my face. I am really glad this assignment made me take a closer look at my cosmetic products.

  1. Isn't it interesting the different diseases cosmetic products can cause? It is really hard to wrap your mind around things like this, at least for me it is. I also find it amazing that these products are even sold in the US!

  2. Oh my goodness... I did mine on a cuticle creme which was safe but after I read what you scored on your mascara product, I'm going to go check out the other beauty supplies I have.

  3. We're all going to be going to this website now before we go out and buy our new makeup. I use mostly covergirl as well. My mascara (lashblast) only came up as a 5...so maybe we'll have to pick and choose and see what is most beneficial or is less problematic.

  4. I probably won't change my makeup brands because it's so cheap and I already have bought everything. Maybe once I run out of everything I will look into natural products. The reality is, though, everything you put on your body is bad for you. Deodorant, lotion, shampoo, soap.. the list goes on!

  5. Eww, isn't that scary that we've all been putting this sort of thing on our faces! I think that I probably wont be able to find something good for my face where Im shopping now, so I don't know how likely it is that I will go out of my way to get it somewhere else. I think that it's scary and more consumers should know about it.
