I found the article, Minnesota Cities are Going Green, in the Minneapolis Start Tribune. This article talks about how many cities around the state want to go green and clean up their act but it is really hard to find funding to do so. This article introduces GreenStep Cities, which is a program that helps cities plan and implement green initiatives. They also challenge lawmakers to provide funding for green initiatives. The Minnesota Cities that are pilot cities for GreenStep include, Edina, Bloomington, Falcon Heights, and St. Louis Park. The main goal of GreenStep Cities is to have 25% of utilities and energy resources used by residents to come from renewable sources.
I think this a great step towards become energy efficient on a larger scale. The GreenStep Cities program website is included if you would like to check that out also. http://greenstep.pca.state.mn.us/
I'm proud to live in a state that has ambition to actually set up initiatives to go green. Though it might take time and dedication, I think this could work!! I think with all of the websites about recycling and reusing products, it is a very realistic goal to reach 25% renewable energy.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this? I love that Minnesota is doing it. I agree with Elly too, I think this is definitely a realistic goal. The website is fun too, it lays things out for you and gives you some easy steps to follow. Hopefully we can find some kind of update article in a few months and see how it is going.
ReplyDeleteYes, lately I've been seeing all the new green programs out there for MN. I've even come across a person who gave me a bunch of information on their job to promote their green initiatives. I'm liking what I see now days.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, it's good to see new initiatives being implemented into cities! I'm liking what I'm seeing :)
ReplyDeleteI like how they have a challenge for lawmakers. Things need to start happening sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool! I wish that my hometown would try this out. Hopefully this movement will spread there. I think that it will effect more people then they think by just spreading awareness.
