My SMART Goal was to once again take the bus to and from the UMD campus 3 times per week.
I felt I did much better this week. I actually met my goal! What helped me greatly was planning ahead. I would wake up ten minutes earlier so I wouldn't have to rush to catch the bus and it seemed to work. I also did not have such a busy week, so it was much easier to take the bus because I did not obligations directly after class that I had to rush off to.
Sometimes while I was waiting out in the bitter cold, I would think I could be in my warm car driving right now. It was hard to resist the urge to walk back home and get in my car. Once I was on the bus and a little warmer, I was proud that resisted the temptation because I was one step closer to meeting my goal.
I learned this week, that taking the bus is not that difficult, it is actually quite easy and quite convenient. I was timing my commute and if I count the time it would take for me to walk to my car in the parking lot and then drive home it takes almost the same amount of time to take the bus. I also do not have to deal with headache of parking at UMD. The buses run so often that I do not have to wait to long to catch a bus to and from school. Also, the weather and roads were not to pleasant this past week, so I really enjoyed not having to drive and just taking the bus, It was a lot less stressful!

Since I completed my goal this week, I am going to up the ante and shoot for taking the bus 4 times per week to and from campus.
Congratulations on achieving your goal this week! Coordinating your schedule with bus schedules can get kinda hectic! For next time if you keep this goal, just remember when you're waiting out in the cold for the bus you would also be out just about that much time scraping off your windows and heating up your freezing car! haha It seems as though you are on good track with your goal, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteNice work! I agree taking the bus to school IS convienent! I find it hard though when I'm waiting at school to wait for it so I can go back home! Good luck on your new goal!
ReplyDeleteAlright, you made your goal! I know how you feel about wanting to just walk home and drive. I'm really glad you were able to overcome that obstacle though, trust me it gets easier the more your incorporate the bus schedule with your schedule! So keep doing what your doing and you will do really well!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, all it really takes is some planning to break your old habit. It's really all about the habit that helps us achieve our goals. And I agree, trying to park at UMD in the morning is so stressful, that's the main reason I didn't buy a parking pass this year. Now that it is winter you won't have to worry about starting your car early or scraping ice off your windshield as often!
ReplyDeleteSee! The bus isn't bad at all. I really like that I don't have to scrape off my car and warm it up way in advance so that it's comfortable to drive in to school. And yes, finding a parking spot at school is quite a hastle. It is contributing to a great resource when you take the bus to school. I hope you incorporate this into your daily habits, and not just for the sake of this project in the future
ReplyDeleteSounds like you learned a lot about yourself and taking the bus. Sometimes when we drive so often we forget how easy other transportation services can be as great or even better too. I think the bus services does provide good services during this winter weather because it can be quite dangerous for you and your car! Good choice and keep up with your SMART goal!
ReplyDeleteYay for meeting your goal! It's cool that you figured out that it takes about the same time to drive or take the bus. I hate the parking at UMD. I personally would much rather be cold for a couple minutes than have to figure out where to park. It's cool that you are stepping up your goal! I hope it works out :)
